Dragon Quest IV: Michibikareshi Monotachi  Enix (Chunsoft)1990As the legend of Erdrick slips into the past, it's time to begin anew. Ragnar, the King's General. Alena, the Princess. Taloon, the Merchant. Nara & Mara, the Dancer and the Fortune Teller. A Hero. Fulfill a prophesy. Is this your destiny? Experience this epic, multi-quest RPG!***This game approaches 16-bit quality. There are some neat technical tricks in this game, including dozens of characters on-screen without flickering. The story is divided into a Chapter structure. Early chapters introduces a main character (chp 4's main characters are a pair of sisters), has a unique quest for each spanning many years, and hints at the main story and future connections of these characters to come. Later chapters have main characters meeting to fulfill the main quest of the game. DQ3 was very open with character creation, sequential multi-classing, item vault and bank and other features. DQ4 returns to pre-made characters with set classes with a vengeance. But there are some added features to take full advantage of this. One is the wagon. Once the wagon is acquired, many characters, all main characters in fact, can join the party. The player selects and active subset while the rest wait in reserve. No more visiting a town somewhere to swap for a party best suited for the given task (like DQ3).
